Kateri.org provides details and purchasing options for history books written by Darren Bonaparte. His newest book titled ‘A Lily Among Thorns’ talks about the history and events around Kateri Tekathawitha. I am one third of the way through this book. A Lily Among Thorns is really fascinating to me, because I am learning about the history of my own ancestors from a fellow Mohawk person who has respect for the white man’s religions, while maintaining his own identity as a Mohawk person.Â
The sketches in ‘A Lily Among Thorns’ are also fascinating and beautiful. Actual living people from my own community posed while wearing historical clothing for the sketches in the book. Another one of Darren Bonaparte’s books is titled ‘Creation and Confederation’. I read the whole book and learned about Iroquois history in a way that is nothing like the grade school books I grew up with.
It is rare in my lifetime to find books published about my own Iroquois ancestors’ and historical events that are told by my own relatives who have true respect for our Iroquois ancestors. As a young person I found it difficult, painful, and close to impossible to learn about my own family’s history because it’s not pleasant to be falsely labeled as a descendant of  ’dumb savages’ in grade school books.Â

I installed wordpress for kateri.org and customized a standard design template for it. I also installed standard ecommerce plugins and customized them to allow visitors to safely purchase books and products from kateri.org.

It’s a fair point to use spam-protection and comment-anti-spam systems like Akismet. If your blog is a personal thing then it’s only right that our comments have personality to them. After all, personallity is what makes reading blogs interesting. Keep posting and deleting bad comment that are just negative or doesn’t add to the conversation!
